Airport pickups that matter
Visiting directors, in-laws, a delegation of four with hold luggage. Pre-booked SUV and MUV fare from Chennai airport is ₹1,200 – 2,500 all-in by zone, fixed at booking.
The vehicle most Chennai families and corporate travel desks actually book, priced against its two siblings so you can see what the extra money buys — and what it does not.
In short
An Innova Crysta in Chennai is ₹4,200 – 4,600 for 8 hours and 80 km, ₹4,300 for 10 hr / 100 km and ₹20 – 23 per kilometre on outstation round trips against a 250 – 300 km daily minimum, plus ₹700 – 800 bata a day. A plain Innova is ₹3,400 – 3,800 for the same package.

Three vehicles, one family, three genuinely different prices. The Hycross is sold on its own slab structure in Chennai, which is why its columns read differently.
| Vehicle | 4 hr / 40 km | 8 hr / 80 km | 10 hr / 100 km | 12 hr / 120 km | Extra km | Extra hour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Innova — 7+1 seats | ₹1,800 – 2,100 | ₹3,400 – 3,800 | ₹3,600 – 3,800 | ₹4,600 – 5,200 | ₹17 – 19 | ₹300 |
| Innova Crysta — 7+1 seats | ₹2,200 – 2,600 | ₹4,200 – 4,600 | ₹4,300 | ₹5,600 – 6,400 | ₹20 – 23 | ₹350 – 400 |
| Innova Hycross — 7+1 seats | ₹3,500 | ₹5,500 for 8 hr / 100 km | — | ₹7,500 for 12 hr / 150 km | ₹25 – 28 | ₹450 |

The older Innova and the Crysta look similar from thirty feet and cost about ₹800 a day apart. The difference is what a six-hour highway run feels like. The Crysta is quieter above 80 km/h, its suspension deals with Tamil Nadu's patched national highways without throwing the third row around, and its air conditioning reaches the back seats properly in May. On a two-hour city day that is worth very little. On Chennai to Madurai it is worth every rupee of the gap.
The Hycross is the newest of the three and almost nobody in Chennai publishes rates for it. Ours: ₹3,500 for 4 hr / 40 km, ₹5,500 for 8 hr / 100 km, ₹7,500 for 12 hr / 150 km, ₹25 – 28 a kilometre beyond that and ₹450 an extra hour. Note that the Hycross packages carry more included kilometres than the equivalent Crysta slabs — 100 km rather than 80, 150 rather than 120 — which makes the headline gap look larger than the effective one on a long city day.
The plain Innova remains the value pick for groups who want seven seats and do not need the refinement: ₹3,400 – 3,800 for 8 hr / 80 km, ₹17 – 19 a kilometre local overage and ₹17 – 18 on outstation round trips.
Round-trip rates against a per-day minimum, drop rates against a per-trip minimum, and the bata that goes with each.
| Vehicle | Round trip per km | Round trip min/day | Bata per day | Drop per km | Drop minimum | Drop bata |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Innova — 7+1 | ₹17 – 18 | 250 – 300 km | ₹600 | ₹19 – 21 | 250 – 300 km | ₹500 – 600 |
| Innova Crysta — 7+1 | ₹20 – 23 | 250 – 300 km | ₹700 – 800 | ₹21 – 26 | 250 km | ₹600 – 800 |
| Innova Hycross — 7+1 | Quoted individually | 300 km | ₹800 | ₹25 | 300 km | ₹800 |
These figures are arithmetic on the published rate, not separate prices: the round-trip per-kilometre rate applied to the road distance or the 250 km daily minimum, whichever is higher, plus bata. Tolls, parking and permits sit on top, at actuals.
| Route | Round-trip distance | Billed km | Kilometre charge at ₹20 – 23 | Bata | Subtotal before tax |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tirupati, day return | ~280 km | 280 km | ₹5,600 – 6,440 | ₹700 – 800, 1 day | ₹6,300 – 7,240 |
| Pondicherry, day return | ~330 km | 330 km | ₹6,600 – 7,590 | ₹700 – 800, 1 day | ₹7,300 – 8,390 |
| Mahabalipuram, day return | ~120 km | 250 km minimum | ₹5,000 – 5,750 | ₹700 – 800, 1 day | ₹5,700 – 6,550 |
| Vellore, day return | ~280 km | 280 km | ₹5,600 – 6,440 | ₹700 – 800, 1 day | ₹6,300 – 7,240 |
A Crysta is a 7+1: seven passengers and a driver. On paper. In practice the honest number depends on the middle row. With captain seats you get two in the middle and three in the rear, and the rear three across is fine for a ninety-minute run and unpleasant for eight hours to Ooty. With a bench middle row you get three and three, and the same warning applies twice over.
The luggage sum is the one people get wrong. Seven passengers and seven suitcases do not travel in one Crysta. Six passengers and six bags do, with the third row's boot space used properly. If you are seven with luggage for a multi-day trip, the correct vehicle is the 12 to 14 seat tempo traveller at ₹21 – 25 a kilometre — more per kilometre, but one vehicle instead of two, one driver's bata instead of two, and everyone arrives together.

The single most booked Crysta trip out of Chennai. About 280 km garage to garage, back the same night, with the Andhra Pradesh permit as a named line rather than a surprise.
Decorated for the couple, or plain white with a uniformed chauffeur for a visiting client. Wedding Crysta and Carnival hire runs ₹8,000 – 15,000 a day including decoration.
₹20 to ₹23 a kilometre on outstation round trips against a 250 to 300 km daily minimum, and ₹21 to ₹26 on a one-way drop against a 250 km minimum. Local package overage is ₹20 to ₹23 a kilometre. Driver bata is ₹700 to ₹800 a day on round trips and ₹600 to ₹800 once on a drop.
₹4,200 to ₹4,600 for 8 hours and 80 km, ₹4,300 for 10 hours and 100 km, and ₹5,600 to ₹6,400 for 12 hours and 120 km inside the city. On outstation work a full day is the 250 km minimum at ₹20 to ₹23 a kilometre plus ₹700 to ₹800 bata, so roughly ₹5,700 to ₹6,550 before tax.
On a city day of ₹3,400 to ₹3,800 versus ₹4,200 to ₹4,600, usually not. On a 500 km highway day it usually is: the Crysta is quieter above 80 km/h, its suspension copes with patched highway better, and its air conditioning actually cools the third row in May.
Six passengers with six suitcases, comfortably. Seven passengers and seven bags does not work in one vehicle. For seven with luggage on a multi-day trip the right answer is a 12 to 14 seat tempo traveller at ₹21 to ₹25 a kilometre — one vehicle, one driver's bata, everyone together.
Yes, and on its own slabs: ₹3,500 for 4 hr / 40 km, ₹5,500 for 8 hr / 100 km and ₹7,500 for 12 hr / 150 km, with ₹25 to ₹28 a kilometre beyond and ₹450 an extra hour. Note the Hycross packages include more kilometres than the Crysta ones, so the effective gap is smaller than the headline.
250 km per calendar day on a round trip, or 300 km a day into Karnataka. A one-way drop carries a flat 250 km minimum. That is why a Mahabalipuram round trip of about 120 km is better bought as a local 12 hr / 120 km package at ₹5,600 to ₹6,400 than as an outstation trip.
On outstation trips yes — ₹700 to ₹800 per calendar day including the return day, rising to ₹800 a day beyond 500 km a day. On local 4, 8 or 12 hour packages inside Chennai there is no bata at all and no driver may ask you for one.
Yes. The pre-booked SUV and MUV band from Chennai airport is ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 by zone, plus the ₹150 to ₹250 night surcharge that applies between midnight and 5 am. Your flight is tracked, so an arrival delay costs nothing, and the airport allows ten minutes free entry to exit before car park charges begin.
