Chennai Cab Fare Calculator
Vehicle, trip type, kilometres and days in; an itemised estimate out — minimum kilometre billing, driver bata, hill charge and GST included, exactly as they appear on the invoice.
In short
A Chennai to Tirupati sedan day return works out at roughly ₹4,140 – 4,240 before tax: 280 km garage-to-garage at ₹13 a kilometre, which clears the 250 km daily minimum, plus ₹500 – 600 driver bata. Add 5% GST and the Andhra Pradesh permit and tolls at actuals.
Reviewed 20 September 2026 · the calculator reads the same rates as the rate card and is re-checked whenever that card is re-verified
What this calculator does differently
Most fare estimators on the internet give you a single confident number that the operator then revises. This one deliberately gives a band, because the underlying rate card gives a band — a Crysta is ₹20 to ₹23 a kilometre depending on the vehicle and the date, and pretending otherwise would be the same trick in a friendlier font.
It also refuses to guess at three things: toll, parking and inter-state permit. Those are paid at actuals against receipts, plaza tariffs change, and a round trip pays different rates from a single journey. Every other line on your invoice is in here.
Work out the whole bill
Pick the trip and the vehicle. The calculator applies the same published rates, the same minimum kilometres and the same driver bata that appear on the rate card, then adds 5% GST the way the invoice does. It gives a band, not a single figure, because the rate card gives a band.
Press calculate and the itemised estimate appears here.
Not in this estimate: toll, parking, inter-state permit for Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka, and airport car-park charges beyond the free ten minutes. Those are billed at actuals with the receipts handed over, which is why no calculator can honestly include them.
Worked example one — Tirupati day return, sedan
The commonest outstation booking in Chennai, done by hand so you can check the calculator against it.
| Line | Basis | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Distance, garage to garage | Chennai yard → Tirupati → Chennai yard | ~280 km |
| Minimum kilometres | Cleared by the actual distance — 250 km for one calendar day | not applied |
| Kilometre charge | At ₹13 a kilometre over 280 km | ₹3,640 |
| Driver bata | One calendar day, sedan | ₹500 – 600 |
| Subtotal | ₹4,140 – 4,240 | |
| GST at 5% | On the cab service | ₹207 – 212 |
| Estimated all-in | Before permit and toll | ₹4,347 – 4,452 |
| Andhra Pradesh permit | Paid at the check-post, receipt returned | at actuals |
| Tolls | Receipts handed over with the invoice | at actuals |
Worked example two — a local day that runs over
An 8 hr / 80 km sedan booking that ends up using nine hours and ninety-five kilometres. This is where slab rounding would cost you a whole extra tier elsewhere.
| Line | Basis | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 8 hr / 80 km package | Sedan | ₹2,300 – 2,600 |
| Extra hour | One hour at ₹200 – 250 | ₹200 – 250 |
| Extra kilometres | Overage of 15 km at ₹13 – 15 | ₹195 – 225 |
| Driver bata | None on local packages | ₹0 |
| Subtotal | ₹2,695 – 3,075 | |
| GST at 5% | ₹135 – 154 | |
| Estimated all-in | ₹2,830 – 3,229 | |
| What a 10-hour re-slab would have cost | The 10-hour package instead of the 8-hour one | ₹300 – 200 more, for nothing |
Worked example three — Ooty, three days, Crysta
A multi-day hill round trip, where the per-day minimum, the bata stack and the hill charge all appear at once.
| Line | Basis | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Distance | Each way 555 km, garage to garage | ~1,110 km |
| Minimum kilometres | Cleared — 250 km/day × 3 days = 750 km | not applied |
| Kilometre charge | At ₹20 – 23 a kilometre over 1,110 km | ₹22,200 – 25,530 |
| Driver bata | Three calendar days × ₹700 – 800 | ₹2,100 – 2,400 |
| Hill-station charge | MUV rate, charged once | ₹500 |
| Subtotal | ₹24,800 – 28,430 | |
| GST at 5% | ₹1,240 – 1,422 | |
| Estimated all-in | Before toll and parking | ₹26,040 – 29,852 |
Why the estimate matches the invoice
The calculator is not a lead-capture toy with a sweetened rate underneath. It reads the published rate card, applies the minimum kilometre rule before the per-kilometre rate rather than after it, charges bata by calendar day including the return day, and adds GST at the end on the subtotal — which is the order our accounts team works in.
Where it and the final quote diverge, it is for one of three reasons, and all three are visible in advance. The first is the garage-to-garage distance: until we know your pickup point we cannot know the yard run, and on a local package that is the difference between eighty kilometres of your day and fifty-six. The second is the position inside the band, which we fix when we confirm the vehicle. The third is the actuals — toll, parking, permit — which arrive as receipts.
If you want the estimate turned into a firm figure, send the trip through WhatsApp. You get one number, in writing, with each of the lines above named, and that number is what the invoice says.

Questions we answer daily
Does the calculator include toll and permit charges?
No, and no honest estimator can. Tolls are paid at actuals with receipts handed over, plaza tariffs change, and return-journey rates differ from single-journey ones. The Andhra Pradesh permit for Tirupati and the Karnataka permit for Bangalore are paid at the check-post. Everything else — kilometres, bata, hill charge, night charge and 5% GST — is in the estimate.
Why does it give a range instead of one price?
Because the rate card gives a range. A sedan is ₹13 to ₹15 a kilometre on a drop and an Innova Crysta ₹20 to ₹23 on a round trip, depending on the vehicle allotted and the date. We fix the exact figure when we confirm the car, and it is then held for the trip.
How is the minimum kilometre rule applied?
Before the per-kilometre rate, not after. A 180 km round trip in a sedan over one day is billed at the 250 km daily minimum, so ₹3,250 rather than ₹2,340. Karnataka trips use 300 km a day. The calculator shows a line telling you when the minimum, rather than your actual distance, decided the bill.
Does the calculator work without JavaScript?
The interactive part does not, but the page does. The three worked examples below it do the same arithmetic by hand for a Tirupati day return, an 8 hr / 80 km local booking that overruns, and a three-day Ooty trip, and the full rate card carries every figure the calculator uses.
Can I get an Ertiga round-trip estimate?
The calculator will tell you it cannot. Published round-trip per-km tiers in Chennai exist for the sedan at ₹13, Innova at ₹17 to ₹18, Crysta at ₹20 to ₹23 and tempo traveller at ₹21 to ₹25. Ertiga and Carens round trips are quoted individually rather than guessed at, and we put the figure in writing.
Is driver bata charged on a local Chennai booking?
No. Bata covers a driver's food and bed away from home, which does not arise on a 4, 8 or 12 hour booking inside the city. It appears only on outstation work: ₹500 to ₹600 a day for a sedan up to ₹900 to ₹1,000 once on a tempo traveller drop.
What if my trip runs longer than I booked?
You pay the published extra-hour and extra-kilometre rates — ₹200 to ₹250 an hour and ₹13 to ₹15 a kilometre on a sedan. You are not moved into the next slab. Worked example two shows the difference: the same overrun costs ₹200 to ₹300 more under a re-slabbing rate card than under this one.
How accurate is the airport estimate?
It is a fixed band rather than an estimate. A pre-booked sedan is ₹800 to ₹1,200 all-in from Chennai airport to any city zone between Guindy at 7 km and Sholinganallur at 22 km, and an SUV or MUV ₹1,200 to ₹2,500. Between midnight and 5 am add ₹150 to ₹250. The figure is fixed at booking and does not surge.
